Project Online External User Access

We have heard this question pop up, so we wanted to share the response with you all.

Question from the Community: We are seeing mixed messaging on the use of Project Online sharing with external users similar to external sharing in SharePoint. Is there a capability to have external users have access to Project Online?

Response: Yes, external users can have access to portions of Project Online. At time of this posting (March 22nd, 2016) there is limited support of external users within Project Online.

  • External Users: May be granted access to individual Project Online project sites for the purpose of collaborating on the project timeline, issues, risks, deliverables and documents.  They do not need a Project Online license for this access.
  • External Users who have been given a tenant account with a Project Online license: Have access to the Project Web App site in Project Online, which includes the Project Center, Resource Center among other features. Depending on their Project Online permissions they may see/do different functionality.
