Managing Projects in Project Pro vs. Project Online/PWA
At PPM Works we often have both existing customers and potential customers ask for a tool comparison between Project Professional and the web-based editing capabilities of Project Web App (PWA). This helps determine the licenses needed for each role at the organization.
If your organization wants to use the new Resource Engagements functionality, Project Managers will need Project Professional 2016. I perform a lot of web-based editing on my own projects however, Project Pro provides additional functionality that I can only get in the client.
The following Microsoft blog is a great reference for tool comparison:
If your Project Managers do not have very complex schedules and have little experience using Project Pro, web-based editing may be all they need.
There have been some recent changes to the licensing model for Project Online as well.
Please reference our blog, New Microsoft Project Cloud Options, for a detailed explanation on the service descriptions and how they impact your existing licenses.
Hope this helps! Please contact us with questions.
