#1 Mistake When Creating Project Server EPT’s (Enterprise Project Types) with a Project Plan Template
Are you creating a Project Server EPT (Enterprise Project Type) that uses a Project Plan Template? Do you find that you set it to a particular template you created and then when you go back to test it the template is not being used?
This can be frustrating however and the solution can be simple. The two most prevalent mistakes when creating an EPT and using a Project Template are:
#1 issue/mistake is accidentally changing your values by using your mouse scroll wheel.
#2 issue is that you make all the EPT selections including a Project Plan Template and then you go back and select the Default Checkbox “Use this as the default Enterprise Project Type during Project Creation”.
Please note by selecting this checkbox you are choosing whether this is the default Enterprise Project Type for Project creation. If no type is specified during Project Creation, the default Enterprise Project Type will be used.
Note: Making this default will automatically unselect all the departments. The default Enterprise Project Type cannot have a Project Plan Template associated with it.
And if you select the Default Checkbox (even if you unselect it) it will set the Project Plan Template dropdown to ‘None’ and remove all departments.
We like to call this a ‘SAM’ or ‘Silly Admin Move’ by not reading the description on the EPT options.
We hope this helps and saves you time, headaches, and frustration.
