Importing Microsoft Projects into Project Server 2013: Ways to Import Projects
First, you should read our article on Scrubbing your projects First.
Then you can read this article and determine the best option for your to import. I prefer Using the Project Wizard. Check out our article, Import Wizard to import projects into Project Server 2013 for more details on the Project Wizard.
Microsoft Project Server 2013 repost from Microsoft Office Online Article.
You can use the Get Started with Project Web App Web Part to create a new project using a SharePoint task list that is connected to Project Web App, or to import a SharePoint task list into the Project Center in Project Web App. However, there are a number of other ways you can create new projects, or import projects that you have started planning outside of Project Web App.
Create a new project
There are a few different ways you can create a new project. You can use the Create or import projects tile on the Get Started with Project Web App Web Part. You can also create a new project in the Project Center in Project Web App.
Using the “Create or import projects” tile
When you create a project from scratch using the Get Started with Project Web App Web Part, a new project site is created for the project. You can use the task list on that project site to begin planning your project. You can add tasks to your project, add people to the project team, and indent, outdent, move, and delete tasks.
Tip For more information on using a project site, see Getting started with a project site.
While using your project site to plan your project, remember that the task list can also be viewed in Project Web App. When viewing a SharePoint task list in Project Web App, you can view resource availability and assignments, report on task lists, and create custom fields. You can read more about these options in Work with a SharePoint task list in Project Web App.
Once your project is through initial planning, you may want to take advantage of the more robust project planning, tracking, and reporting features in Project Web App. You can easily change a SharePoint task list into an enterprise project.
Tip For more information on SharePoint task lists and Project Web App, see Overview: View a SharePoint task lists in Project Web App.
Using the Project Center
Another way to create a new project in Project Web App is by using the Project Center. For more information, see Create a project. When you create a project this way, you can create it as an enterprise project, which is managed within Project Web App, or you can create it as a SharePoint task list. Creating a SharePoint task list project in the Project Center is the same as creating a new project by using the Create or import projects tile on the Get Started with Project Web App Web Part. If you choose this option, you should read through the information in the Using the “Create or import projects” tile section, earlier in this article.
The Project Center also provides the option to create a new project in Microsoft Project Professional 2013. If you choose to create the project this way, take a look at Create a new project for some helpful starting points. When you start a new project this way, you can plan your project schedule using Project Professional 2013, and it will automatically be included in the Project Center in Project Web App.
Import a project
There are two ways you may have already created a project, outside of Project Web App. You may have created a task list on a SharePoint site, or you may have created a project in Project Professional 2013. Either way, you can easily import your project into Project Web App.
Import a SharePoint task list
When you click the Create or import projects tile on the Get Started with Project Web App Web Part, there is a link on the Start a new Project dialog box to Add existing SharePoint sites to Project Web App. When you click this link, you can select an existing task list on a SharePoint site to include in the Project Center in Project Web App.
You can also import SharePoint task lists from the Project Center, instead of using the Get Started with Project Web App Web Part. For more information, see Add an existing SharePoint task list to Project Web App.
When you import a SharePoint task list, the task list can be viewed in Project Web App.

Import a project from Project Professional 2013
To import a project from Project Professional 2013, first you’ll need to create a connection between Project Professional 2013 and Project Web App. Once that connection is established and you are logged on to Project Web App, the next step is to publish the project to Project Web App.
Another way you might import a project from Project Professional 2013 is by syncing the project with a SharePoint site, and then adding the task list from that SharePoint site to Project Web App.
