SharePoint Task List Projects Created as Enterprise Project and Not SharePoint Task List

Recently we ran into issue in one of our environments where SharePoint Task list projects were getting created as Enterprise Template instead of SharePoint Task List. When we compared the Queue jobs between working environment and non-working environment, we found that “Project Site Update” job is not getting created in non-working environment. This indicated that issue is related to Project Site creation. When we checked the Project Site creation settings, we found that it is set to “Allow user to choose”. The issue resolved after we changed the Project Site creation settings to “Automatically Create a site on first publish”

Below are the steps to update Project Site creation settings

  1. In SharePoint Central Administration, click Application Management.
  2. On the Application Management page, in the Service Application section, click Manage Service Applications.
  3. On the Service Applications page, click the Project Application Service that contains the Project Web App instance for which you want to access the Site Provisioning settings.
  4. On the Manage Project Web Apps page, click the drop-down menu for the PWA instance for which you want to access the Site Provisioning settings, and click Manage.
  5. On the Server Settings page, in the Operational Policies section, click Project Site Provisioning Settings.
  6. On the Project Site Provisioning Settings page, in the Site creation settings section, select Provisioning mode options As Automatically create a project site on first publish
  7. Click on Save
