Project Start Date is Not Updating
Recently we ran into issue in Project Server 2013 where Project Start Date is not updating correctly. We updated the Start Date for the Project using Project Server PDP, however “Project Start Date” in reporting database was showing old date.
After doing further research, we found that this is By Design behaviour in all versions of Project Server (2013/2010/2007). We were unable to reproduce the issue in Project Online. That indicates Microsoft will soon have this issue fixed in Project Server as well.
The “Project Start Date” doesn’t get updated when we update the start date from PDP. It only updates the “Start Date” for Project Summary Task in the schedule . Below is the example with screenshot.
1) Updated the Start Date from “9/17/2015” to “2/2/2015” from PDP and Saved/Published the Project.
2) The reporting Database still shows the old date “9/17/2015”
3) Opened the Plan in Project Professional. The start date for Project Summary task shows the updated “Start Date 2/2/2015”. However in Project Information dialog box we still see the old date “9/17/2015”
Project Information Dialog Box.
As a workaround we need to update Project Start Date from Project Information screen in Project Professional. For reporting purpose we need to use Start Date for “Project Summary Task” from Task table instead of “Project Start Date” from Project table.
