Microsoft Ignite Recap (The new Planner Announcement)
Today we learned some exciting announcements from Microsoft Ignite that affect Microsoft Project. Microsoft To Do, Planner, and Project for Web will be combining into the NEW PLANNER. As of November 2023, Microsoft will continue to offer the following tools for Project and Task Management work management:
- Microsoft Project Online (Project Server)
- Microsoft Project for web
- Microsoft Planner
- Microsoft To Do
- Due we dare say Excel??
This announcement will affect companies differently. For some this is going to be the work management solution they have been looking for. For others with more complex Project Management needs they may need to turn to a trusted advisor when looking at their Project Management tool options. Introducing the New Planner
The new Planner will be a consolidation of Planner, To Do and Project for the web all in one application.
Rollout timeline for the new Planner:
- November 2023: The Tasks by Planner and To Do app in Teams is renamed Planner.
- Spring 2024: The new Planner app in Teams will be generally available. Microsoft Project for the web will be renamed to Planner.
- Later in 2024: The web experience of the new Planner will be generally available. The features you know and love in Microsoft Project for the web will be available in the new Planner app in Teams and the Planner web app.
The capabilities between Planner Premium and Project Plan 3 & Plan 5 will be announced in 2024. You will have the option of upgrading to Planner Premium right from the application and experiencing a free 1-week trial.
